Now Hiring: Case Manager

Clean Slate Utah is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Case Manager to support individuals seeking criminal record expungements and pardons through Utah court systems. This role is client-facing and mission-driven, providing hands-on guidance, document preparation, and coordination with courts and government agencies.
  • Salary: $45,000 per year
  • Benefits: $500 monthly health stipend for purchasing health insurance through the marketplace or for other health-related expenses.
  • Location: This is primarily a work-from-home position, except for our mandatory walk-in expungement clinic every Thursday in Salt Lake City, Utah and occasional in-person meetings and community tabling events.
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 9 AM - 5 PM occasional evening and Saturday events

Position Summary

The Case Manager plays a critical role in helping clients navigate complex legal and administrative processes with clarity, dignity, and care. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Case Manager is responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and day-to-day administration of the Fresh Start Program.

This position will work to determine and manage individuals who may be eligible for automatic or petition-based clearance (expungement). For those not eligible for automatic expungement, the Case Manager will help individuals with the court-based expungement or pardon process, working with the court system, other NGOs, government agencies, and others in navigating the expungement/pardon process.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions

1. Intake & Expungement Support

  • Conduct client intake screenings to confirm eligibility and absence of open cases.
  • Answer general questions and guide clients through the application process.
  • Prepare and file expungement documents, including: petitions, representation agreements, motions and orders for fee waivers, and notices of appearance.
  • Assist clients with fingerprinting and BCI applications.
  • Staff on-site expungement clinics, providing direct support and documentation assistance.
  • Collaborate with Utah courts, BCI, and related agencies to ensure completion of expungements and follow-up on appeals.
  • Work closely with other team members and legal staff to review client submissions for accuracy and compliance with court requirements.

2. Pardons Support

  • Coordinate with the Board of Pardons and Parole (BOP) on client applications.
  • Prepare police report summaries and organize supporting documentation.
  • Facilitate one-on-one client support meetings, providing guidance on processes and document preparation.
  • Support GRAMA requests, track application progress, and maintain accurate case records.

3. Community Education & Outreach

  • Participate in community events, tabling, and presentations to educate the public about expungement and pardon processes, giving presentations and public speaking on behalf of the organization, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent multidisciplinary skills.
  • Action-oriented, organized, flexible, self-directed, high integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, creative, and an effective problem-solver.
  • Ability to work with client’s sensitive legal information in a confidential and respectful manner.
  • Commitment to sustaining and promoting inclusive and safe environments in a diverse work setting and with a diverse team.
  • Proficiency in Word, Google Suite, and data entry systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of case management experience.
  • Lived experience with the criminal justice system.
  • Knowledge of Utah court systems and familiarity with Xchange Court System.
  • Experience with legal documents, nonprofit case management, or public-facing service roles.
  • Experience working with justice-impacted individuals or in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.
  • Spanish speaking is a plus.
